๐Ÿ’ก On 14 September 1716, Boston Light was first ๐Ÿ’ก On 14 September 1716, Boston Light was first lit on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbour, Massachusetts. This made it the first lighthouse established in what became the United States ๐ŸŒŠ The original tower was destroyed during the American Revolution in 1776, but a new tower was built in 1783. ๐ŸŒŠ Fanad Head Lighthouse โ€“ 140 Years 1 Septe ๐ŸŒŠ Fanad Head Lighthouse โ€“ 140 Years 1 September 1886 saw the present Fanad Head Lighthouse in County Donegal first show its light โ€” 140 years ago today. The first Fanad Head lighthouse was built to the designs of George Halpin Snr and first lit in 1817. By the 1880s, a taller tower was needed to improve the lightโ€™s visibility, so the present lighthouse was built nearby, designed by William Douglass. Our Australia and New Zealand ALK representative I Our Australia and New Zealand ALK representative Ian Wright sends his greetings from the south Island of New Zealand. He is set up for International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend ILLW. Akaroa Lighthouse was automated in 1975. This light was relocated 40+ years ago, or it was to be pushed over the cliff in to the pacific ocean.
