International Lighthouse Heritage Weekend intends to raise the profile of lighthouses, lightvessels and other navigational aids, promoting our maritime heritage.
Some lighthouses and places of associated interest will be open to the public, and there may be special events at lighthouses and lightvessels both at home and abroad.
Trusts and Friends groups will be able to use this day to raise awareness of their work and involvement in the preservation of the history of light keeping.
International Lighthouse Heritage Weekend coincides with International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend. ILLW, founded by the Ayr Amateur Radio Group, has radio operators transmitting from lighthouses around the globe. This is coordinated and promoted via ILLW: see the website for the latest list of participants.
