International Lighthouse Heritage Weekend intends to raise the profile of lighthouses, lightvessels and other navigational aids, promoting our maritime heritage.

Many lighthouses and places of associated interest will be open to the public, and there will be special events at lighthouses and lightvessels both at home and abroad. Trusts and Friends groups will be able to use this day to raise awareness of their work and involvement in the preservation of the history of lightkeeping.

ILHW coincides with International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend, which was founded by the Ayr Amateur Radio Group with the aim of radio operators transmitting from lighthouses around the globe.  This is coordinated and promoted via see the website for the latest list of participants.

More details will follow in due course.  If you wish your lighthouse/lightship visitor centre to be included in the list of visitor centres open for the weekend, please let us know so we can publicise your event.

Participating Lighthouses

Please note that opening times vary from lighthouse to lighthouse, and some may not be open all of the time, and that height, age or access restrictions may also be in place, so you are strongly advised to check with the relevant visitor centre in advance to confirm details.
